Background information: The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence against women and girls (VAWG) is an international civil society and community led campaign that takes place each year, starting on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (EVAW), and ending on 10 December, Human Rights Day. In support of this initiative, the UN calls for governments, private sector, academia and civil society actors to increase awareness, galvanize advocacy efforts and share knowledge and innovations to end violence against women and girls, once and for all.
