25 Years after the ICPD: Population and Development for a Sustainable Future in Thailand
Thailand has undergone remarkable demographic changes since the time of ICPD 25 years ago. Life expectancy has risen, fertility has fallen to well below replacement level, with a steadily declining number of births. As a result, the share of population in the working ages has increased, but both its share and numbers have now started to decline, and the population is ageing rapidly. These demographic changes bring both challenges and opportunities.

State of World Population 2018: The Power of Choice
The global trend towards smaller families, including in Asia and the Pacific, is a reflection of people making reproductive choices to have as few or as many children as they want, when they want. When people lack choice, it can have a long-term impact on fertility rates, often making them higher or lower than what most people desire.
Family size is closely linked with reproductive rights, which, in turn, are tied to many other rights, including the right to adequate health, education, and jobs. Where people can exercise their rights, they tend to thrive. Where these rights are stifled, people often fail to achieve their full potential, impeding economic and social progress.
SDGs SUCCESS STORIES IN THAILAND - Prevention and Solution of the Adolescent Pregnancy Problem Act A.D. 2016
Thailand demonstrated its commitment to preventing unintended pregnancy and halving adolescent childbearing by enacting the Prevention and Solution of the Adolescent Pregnancy Problem Act A.D. 2016 (in effect since July 2016). The Act guarantees five sexual and reproductive health rights for young people: the right to make a decision by oneself; the right to information and knowledge; the right to reproductive health service; the right to confidentiality and privacy; and the right to social welfare provision, that are equal and non-discriminative.
