Workshop Concept Note and Program

Title: Accelerating SDG5 Progress: Bridging Data Gaps with a Gender-Responsive Approach

Friday 10th November 2023 from 9:00-16:30 hrs.

The Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel

Organizers: The workshop is co-hosted by the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Thailand, and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), with the coordination support of UNCT’s Data and Results Reporting Group.

Background: Achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls, as set out in Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5), is fundamental to the overall success of the 2030 Agenda. However, the lack of comprehensive and up-to-date data on gender-related indicators and progress is a critical challenge to realizing this goal. It is imperative to address this data gap to accelerate SDG implementation and effectively monitor our progress.

Objective: Our one-day workshop addresses the critical data gaps in Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5) by fostering collaboration among government agencies, UN entities, and key partners. We aim to enhance data collection practices, align definitions of key indicators, and share successful practices to accelerate SDG implementation. The workshop aims to unite stakeholders, share knowledge, and take collective action to empower data as a catalyst for achieving SDG 5 and accelerating progress across the Sustainable Development Goals.
