Bangkok, Thailand – 5 March 2024 – UNFPA and Organon in Thailand announced the launch of ‘Her Power’ Project to empower women and adolescent girls to reinforce positive norms that normalize the talks about their sexual and reproductive health everywhere in Thailand. ‘Her Power’ Project is the strategic partnership between UNFPA Thailand & Organon (Thailand) Ltd.  Her Plan is Her Power,” is Organon global initiative which aims to address and overcome gaps and barriers to reduce unplanned pregnancies and empower women and girls when it comes to their sexual and reproductive health (SRH). Through this initiative, Organon Thailand are pleased to announce the grant awarded to UNFPA Thailand for the 'HER POWER' Program.

‘Her Power’ Project translates UNFPA’s and Organon’s common vision and goals into programmatic actions that will be implemented in Thailand at policy advocacy level as well as activities on the ground. Three areas of the focus of ‘Her Power’ Project are sexual and reproductive health for every woman and adolescent girl, economic empowerment for women and girls and policy advocacy for positive norms changes. This ultimately aims that every woman should be in an environment that normalizes conversations on sexual and reproductive health, advances education with innovation to promote life skills with sexual and reproductive health knowledge and facilitates equal access to sexual and reproductive care and services.

UNFPA works to achieve Three Transformative Results contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals within 2030. The Three Transformative Results are ending unmet need for family planning, ending preventable maternal deaths and ending gender-based violence worldwide. In Thailand, UNFPA works closely with partners in both public and private sectors to close the gaps of family planning needs among vulnerable populations including adolescent girls, to end gender-based violence that undermine health and life potential of the population and to promote life-cycle approach to human capital development amid population aging. The partnership with Organon through the project ‘Her Power’ will accelerate the work of UNFPA and partners in Thailand to achieve these goals faster and more inclusive.

“It is very prominent that the ‘Her Power’ project catalyzes the achievement of the Plan of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development or the ICPD which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year and the accelerator for the Sustainable Development Goals. In this regard, I would like to invite all partners in Thailand to join us in this project and leverage the good work together towards the Sustainable Development Goals achievement, especially Goal 3 on good health and wellbeing and Goal 5 on gender equality”, said Dr. Asa Torkelsson, Country Director of UNFPA Thailand and Representative of UNFPA Malaysia in her opening remarks at the launch.

“The decision of when—and whether—to start a family is one of the most important choices a woman can make. At Organon, we envision a better and healthier every day for every woman. Therefore, the launch of ‘Her Power’ Project with UNFPA Thailand will address gender-related norms that lead to disparities in health in Thailand. Under this strategic partnership, we, Organon, aim to build a more sustainable future for women, families, economies and societies here in Thailand and everywhere around the world,” said Mr. Koen C. Kruijtbosch, Managing Director, Organon Thailand.

Her Power Project kicks start its work in 2024, promoting sexual and reproductive health for every woman and adolescent girl, economic empowerment for women and girls and policy advocacy for positive norms changes in communities across Thailand, especially Bangkok, Chiang Rai, Khon Kaen and Yala provinces.
