Launching of Sexuality Online Interactive Knowledge for Young People

by UNFPA and Dek-D Interactive Co., Ltd

11 February 2020, Bangkok - UNFPA together with Dek-D Interactive Co.,ltd jointly launch an online interactive platform, on Sexuality, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights “My Body, My Rights, My Choice” ahead of the Valentine's Day! Launched by Dr. Annette Sachs Robertson, Deputy Regional Director for UNFPA in Asia and the Pacific, and Mr. Napasohg Santisuntornkul, Co-Founder and Chief Operations Officer of Dek-Dee Interactive Co., Ltd, this learning platform consists of five episodes providing the youth-friendly information on the sexual and reproductive health and rights to all netizens especially young people both in and out of school system. The episodes aim at raising awareness of all young people on their rights of sexual and reproductive health under the Prevention and Solution for Adolescent Pregnancy Act, the first rights-based act for young people issued in Thailand in 2016.

"Why is this (online interactive platform) important? In Thailand, we have a situation with unintended teenage pregnancies. UNFPA ICPD Report of Thailand stated that in 2018, an average of 199 women under age 20 gave birth every day, 7 of whom were less than 15 years old. In reality, the number of pregnant adolescents is likely larger, but there are no figures on how many of these pregnancies end in abortion. Approximately 22 percent of women aged 20-24 were married or in union before 18 years, many due to getting pregnant. Furthermore, 58 per cent of teenage mothers aged 15 to 19 who had a baby in the last two years stated that they did not desire the pregnancy", Dr. Roberson says as opening the launch of the online platform.

Dr. Robertson emphasizes, "We are obligated to assist young girls become empowered, to receive information and services that would enable them to make the decisions about their own bodies, to be able to have children when and if they want, and to exercise their rights through making their own choices around education and job opportunities and have the life they want."

"This online interactive platform is Dek-D's first-ever knowledge sharing on sexual and reproductive health and rights for young people who are our main target audience. Thanks to UNFPA who initiates this useful project supporting young people on their rights and choice for their body", says Mr. Napasohg Santisuntornkul, Co-Founder and Chief Operations Officer of Dek-Dee Interactive Co., Ltd.

The first episode of this online interactive platform is launched today, 11 February 2020 on https://www.dek-d.com/unfpa/. The second episode is scheduled to be live on 13 Feb; the third on 17 Feb; the fourth on 19 Feb; and the fifth on 21 Feb. Every episode will be live at 17.00 hr on the scheduled date.
