Opening Remarks by Dr. Asa Torkelsson, Country Director of UNFPA Thailand and Representative of UNFPA Malaysia, for the Launch of ‘Her Power’: the strategic partnership between UNFPA Thailand & Organon (Thailand) Ltd Bangkok, Thailand, 5 March 2024.

HER POWER is the strategic partnership between UNFPA Thailand & Organon (Thailand) Ltd. to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in Thailand, especially in terms of sexual and reproductive health and rights. It aims to co-create joint investments from the public and private sectors in Thailand in empowering and enabling women and adolescent girls, especially those who belong to vulnerable groups, to harness their rights to sexual and reproductive health and to access the rights-based and inclusive services of sexual and reproductive health in their communities. The rights and access to sexual and reproductive health services are the foundation for them to realize their full potential and become active economic and social contributors to their communities and society.

The partnership in Thailand is initially set for a one-year timeframe. It is foreseen to continue in multi-year cooperation to empower adolescent and young adult women to openly talk and learn about their sexual and reproductive health and enable them to access care in their communities sustainably.

At the global level, Organon and UNFPA share a vision of powering a world where the health of women and girls is prioritized and fulfilled. In 2023, Organon and UNFPA signed a memorandum of understanding and launched a joint initiative to accelerate progress toward UNFPA’s transformative goals and reduce unplanned pregnancies globally, focusing on young people.
