UNFPA, BMA, TIJ, and the Moral Center expand SoSafe in Bangkok schools

Safe schools cannot be built through case-by-case responses alone. They require systems that connect prevention, listening, protection, and referral in practical and trusted ways. In this sense, the “Safe Society, Warm Hearts for Thai Children” event held on 25 March 2026 at Bangkok City Hall marked an important step in expanding SoSafe across schools in Bangkok, with the aim of strengthening students’ awareness, safety, and ability to access help when facing bullying and other social issues.

As the city’s policy leader, Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, reaffirmed the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s commitment to creating safer urban spaces for children and young people, with schools serving as a key institutional foundation for protection and care.

Dr. Phiset Sa-ardyen, Executive Director of the Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ), emphasized the integration of restorative justice in schools, promoting approaches that focus not only on discipline, but also on healing, accountability, and the restoration of relationships within the school community.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suriyadeo Tripathi, Director of the Moral Center (Public Organization), highlighted the importance of integrating the morality index across Bangkok’s sub-districts, reinforcing the role of shared values and moral development in building safer environments for children and youth.

For UNFPA Thailand, this collaboration directly reflects the organization’s mandate to advance three transformative results: ending preventable maternal deaths, ending unmet need for family planning, and ending gender-based violence and harmful practices.

At the event, Ms. Siriluck Chiengwong, Head of Office at UNFPA Thailand, underscored that in Thailand’s context, building demographic resilience is equally essential to ensure that systems and society can adapt fairly and effectively to population change while leaving no one behind.

Within this collaboration, SoSafe serves not merely as a digital tool, but as a form of digital social infrastructure that allows students—and people across the life course—to report risks and incidents safely. By acting as a bridge between prevention, listening, healing, and referrals, the platform is helping connect students in Bangkok to safer and more responsive support pathways, backed by the institutional commitment of BMA, TIJ, the Moral Center, and UNFPA Thailand.

What emerged from this effort is therefore more than the introduction of a platform. Through dedicated workshops involving core teachers and student representatives from pilot schools in Lak Si district, SoSafe is evolving from a piece of technology into a practical, community-level protection network. This shift is significant because it helps ensure that students do not have to face bullying or other social problems alone, while also giving teachers clearer tools and stronger networks to respond and refer appropriately.

Bangkok matters because it is both a policy leadership space and an operational scale space. If the city can successfully integrate protection policies, justice mechanisms, moral frameworks, and digital innovation into school- and community-level support structures, it can provide an important model for broader adaptation. This initiative is therefore not only about safer schools in Bangkok; it is part of a wider effort to strengthen the systems that protect children and youth in a rapidly changing society.
